The Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB) manages the registration
of training organisations in New South Wales (NSW).
You must apply for initial registration by using the VETAB Online Services.
The following represents key stages for initial registration.
1. Determine scope
Determine the scope of registration for your training organisation.
2. Preparation
- Undertake research into establishing an RTO. Consult with the industry stakeholders,
including relevant Industry Skills Councils and state advisory bodies when determining
the proposed scope of the registration.

3. Application
The application process requires you to:
- apply for initial registration by using the VETAB Online Services provided on the VETAB website.

evidence to support your application as outlined in the application guide (PDF 173kb) (also found on the VETAB website).

submit a signed declaration, supporting documents and the correct application fees (PDF, 48kb) to VETAB to complete the application
process.
VETAB will check to see if your application is complete, i.e. if all required support
documents and fees have been forwarded. If your application is incomplete, your
organisation will receive an email from VETAB outlining why the application is incomplete,
and you will have 28 days to provide the required documentation.
4. Auditing
Once your application is complete, it will be allocated to an auditor. Your organisation
will be audited against the AQTF Essential Conditions and Standards for Initial
Registration. You will be given 28 calendar days to rectify any non-compliances
and provide evidence to VETAB.
Please note:
- Registration in NSW is for up to five years.
- Case management is offered in the first year of operation to support a newly registered
training organisation.
