Understanding the outcomes of a compliance audit

Following an audit to assess a registered training organisation’s (RTO) compliance against the Australian Quality Training Framework 2007 (AQTF 2007) Essential Standards for Registration, the RTO will receive a report from the relevant state or territory registering authority.

The report will include:

  • comments on compliance and clear descriptions of any non-compliance
  • conclusions reached by the registering authority.

An RTO should be aware that while an auditor will assess its compliance with each of the AQTF Standards, the final audit decision rests with the registering authority.

Audit findings

Audit findings are classified as:

  • compliant
  • non-compliant

Compliant

A compliant finding means the organisation fully complies with all aspects of the AQTF standards.

Non-compliant

The requirements of the AQTF 2007 Essential Standards for Registration have not been met based on the evidence reviewed.

There are three categories of non-compliance.

  • minor
  • significant
  • critical

Further information regarding non-compliance can be found in the AQTF 2007 National Guideline for Managing Non-Compliance (PDF, 155kb).
