The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) along with the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) provide information on:

  • future directions of various occupations
  • vocational education and training (VET) participation.

Department of Employment and Workplace Relations

DEWR provides labour market information including research and analysis of skill shortages, vacancy trends and the future directions of various occupations.  Some of the information available from DEWR includes:

National Centre for Vocational Education Research

NCVER is responsible for:

  • managing national surveys of TAFE graduates and students
  • canvassing employers' views of training
  • undertaking industry skills studies
  • collecting and managing national VET and New Apprenticeship statistics.

The strategic program of research looks at:

Teaching and learning

Examines the range of teaching, delivery and assessment approaches used by VET providers and their effectiveness. This information will document current practice and also evaluate possible alternative approaches.

Industry and employers

Specific information on industries and employers engaging with the VET sector.

Students and individuals

Students and individuals in the VET system: who, what and why.

VET system

Covers the issues affecting the overall development of the national VET system, taking account of the broader context in which VET operates.

The Survey of Education and Training

Includes information on:
