RTO update 15 May 2008 - AQTF 2007 Quality Indicator update.
Further to the advice provided in the RTO update of 1 January 2008, the Quality Indicators resource package will now be available from August 2008 with the supporting information sessions to follow in September and October. The contents of the resource package will include survey instruments, an RTO guide and data collection and reporting software.
AQTF 2007 has now been in place for six months. The new standards have been well received by those using them in this initial phase – feedback from training organisations, states and territories, auditors and industry has been positive. The new arrangements will be strengthened by the components yet to be introduced - the quality indicators and the excellence criteria - both of which are due for implementation in 2008.
Australia’s highly regarded national system of vocational education and training takes another step forward on 1 July when the streamlined, outcomes-focussed quality assurance of AQTF 2007 comes into place.
The AQTF 2007 Essential Standards for Registration provide for information to be gathered against agreed quality indicators. This suite of information will be used by RTOs to support continuous improvement, and by registering bodies as part of their risk assessment.
With only three months to go until the implementation of AQTF 2007 there’s plenty of preparation work going on to meet the 1 July deadline. The National Quality Council has now endorsed the Essential Standards for Registration and the Standards for Registering Bodies. Ministerial approval is expected by the end of April and both sets of standards will be ready for use at RTO workshops across the country in May and June.
The Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) has been revised, and from 1 July 2007 RTOs will benefit from the improvements of its successor, AQTF 2007. Outcomes-focussed audits will allow RTOs to focus more on the quality of the outcomes of their training and assessment, which in turn will give industry greater confidence in the outcomes of training.
