There are range of ways a registered training organisation (RTO) can deliver training. The options include:
Full time and part-time
Full time generally allows people to complete courses faster than part-time training. Intensive, full time training may take days or weeks depending on the course. It requires the learners to be trained during the time they would normally be performing productive work.
Part-time training occurs in regular components over time. Training part-time reduces the time learners spend away from work, but it usually takes longer to complete a course than studying full time.
Business hours and after hours
RTOs should consider offering training courses that run both during normal business hours and after hours, either at night or on weekends. Both businesses and individual learners prefer training that does not impact on their working time.
On or off the business premises
An RTO can deliver courses on its own premises or, if appropriate, conduct the training at a business location to allow the learners to undertake accredited training in the workplace as part of their normal work.
Distance education
In distance education, an RTO delivers training from a remote location or in a location convenient for the learner.
To deliver distance education the RTO generally needs to provide support materials such as course booklets, CD ROMs and training manuals together with holding periodic intensive training sessions at the RTO's premises.
Distance education is occurring increasingly over the Internet.
Combined options
In a lot of circumstances it makes sense to offer a number of training delivery options. For example, training can involve a combination of distance education via the Internet, frequent training seminars at the business location during business hours and night classes at your premises.
The importance of flexible learning
Flexibility means anticipating, and responding to, the ever-changing needs and expectations of vocational education and training (VET) clients – enterprises, learners and communities.RTOs have much to gain by providing flexible learning options. Innovation in training and assessment delivery can be instrumental in giving RTOs a competitive advantage by opening up international, national and regional markets.
