How, when & where will the training occur?
Depending on the particular Australian Apprenticeship you choose, training can occur:
When you choose a training provider to deliver the structured training for your Australian Apprentice, they will negotiate this with you. For instance, some training may be better handled on-the-job because you have the equipment in your workplace. Some Australian Apprenticeships are designed to be delivered completely on-the-job.
What is a Training Contract?
A Training Contract is an agreement between you and your Australian Apprentice about the training conditions and the type of training you will provide to your Australian Apprentice.
It spells out who will be providing the training and, in most cases, confirms that the Australian Apprentice will attend off-the-job training. Off-the-job training must be delivered by a registered training organisation (such as a TAFE institute or a private training provider) recognised by your state or territory training authority.
The agreement must be signed by both you and the Australian Apprentice. An Australian Apprenticeships Centre should be involved at this stage. If the Australian Apprentice is under eighteen years of age, the agreement must be signed by a parent or guardian.
Your local Australian Apprenticeship Centre will arrange for the Training Contract to be lodged with the state or territory training authority within two weeks of a person starting an Australian Apprenticeship, and ensure that a copy of the Training Contract is given to the Australian Apprentice within two weeks of starting the Australian Apprenticeship.
