The ACM30417 Certificate III Companion Animal Services reflects the role of those working in pet related industries. The skills developed during the course can be used across many aspects of the pet industry. You will learn the basic skills and knowledge of animal care to prepare you for work in the animal industry.
You’ll learn to maintain and monitor animal health, maintain hygiene and infection control and provide basic care to a range of companion animals. The course also provides industry skills in areas such as animal care and nutrition, animal wellbeing, workplace information, environment sustainability and work health and safety.
By completing this qualification, you will be able to work in a variety of roles including, pet shop attendant, kennel attendant, cattery attendant, assistant dog trainer, pet exerciser, assistant grooming attendant.
This course reflects the role of individuals required to apply a broad range of knowledge and skills in varied pet industries and undertake skilled work. This qualification serves also as a pathway for further learning.

Delivery
Students have up to 12 months to complete the course. However, many students are able to complete their study within this time frame based upon the amount of hours dedicated to study each week
The course is delivered using a blended approach. The theory (knowledge) is taught using our online ‘Learning Centre’ with printed learner’s guides. This allows you the flexibility to study when it suits your schedule. You won’t need to attend any on-campus classes. We’ve designed the course to fit around your work and lifestyle.
Once the student has completed their theory study and assessments, they are then able to commence their practical training. The practical training is taught during work placement or volunteer work. A minimum of 15 full days is required (120 hours minimum) to complete the training and practical assessments for the Certificate III Companion Animal Services.
Completing the work placement is an integral feature of the course, designed to build up student’s practical skills and make them work-ready. Students are required to find their own placements. We can provide support or guidance in this area.
For those wanting a more intensive program, they are able to attend the academy on the Gold Coast for a 4-week practical training block.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this course, you must:
- Be at least 17 years old
- Completed Year 10, or equivalent
- Internet access and email address
- Organise work placement or volunteer work in a suitable animal facility OR attend the campus for practical training
