Course Overview

We offer this course with the one specialisation, being ageing. The Certificate III in Individual Support reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

Entry Requirements

This is an open entry program of study with participants needing to read, write and communicate in English to a level to perform the job:

  • Students will be required to complete a “Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)” evaluation to determine suitability for the course
  • Students must undertake a “Pre-Training Review” prior to determine suitability for the course
  • Students must be over 18 years of age to conduct a practical work placement. Police checks are required prior to commencing practical placement which we will organise on our students’ behalf. If a student has a Disclosable Court Outcome registered against their name, we are unable to assist with placement as an industry will not accept students without a clear record. This requirement is not negotiable. Please note, in Victoria, this includes any offence that may have occurred up to 10 years ago and will show offences that state they are “without conviction”
  • Students are required to obtain a volunteer Working with Children’s check (WWC) to commence placement
  • Students are required to be able to access appropriate technology (including a computer). Students must have sufficient digital literacy. Further details will be discussed upon application
  • Students must also be able to provide evidence to AHT no later than 4 weeks after course commencement of immunisation protection against Hepatitis B & Varicella (chickenpox) & annual flu vaccination in order to undertake practical placement which may be in the form of a serology report or immunisation records from MyGov

Work Placement

Practical placement of 120 hours is a mandatory requirement of this course. All Health Training will organise on our student’s behalf.

  • The hours of work required within hospitals are usually in two shifts, the morning shift is from 7:00 am – 3:00 pm which is the preferred shift for our students to attend
  • All providers request students to undertake a placement in one block of time and as such, All Health Training suggests if you are already working you consider discussing and organising work and/or family care arrangements prior to undertaking a practical placement to enable you to undertake these duties during the week
  • Practical placement will be commenced during the course and must be completed within 1 month after the course conclusion. Placement is not available during the months of December & January due to restrictions with employers
  • Students will be required to wear an All Health Training polo shirt and name badge (both provided) on placement. In addition, long black pants & black closed in, non-slip shoes will be required which students will either need to provide or purchase at their own cost

Recognition of Prior Learning

  • Competencies gained through other formal study or experience may be acknowledged through a recognition process.
