Delivery
- Designed with flexibility in mind, learning materials are divided into 15-20 minute chunks so you can learn whenever you have a spare few moments
- The virtual Caresure Health Centre immerses you in a healthcare environment and gets you used to working in a health centre with tours, lessons and quizzes
- Online learning materials allow you to add comments and questions, which can be seen, added to and answered by fellow students and Trainers
- Chat and interact with fellow students and Trainers in forums, or message Trainers and Assessors with any questions or queries you may have
Entry Requirements
Education
You will need to have completed year 10, or equivalent. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following:
- A qualification at Certificate II level or higher OR
- 2 years of industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication
Minimum age
You will need to be at least 18 years old.
English
This course requires you to read learner workbooks, undertake a range of written assessments and engage in online discussions. Furthermore, the delivery mode relies on the extensive use of written communication. As such, entry to the course requires the successful completion of English to Year 12 level.
If you have not successfully completed English at Year 12 level, you can demonstrate equivalency with one of the following:
- Successful completion of a Nationally Recognised Training qualification at Certificate III level or higher; OR
- 2 years’ relevant industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication.
Work Placement
The course contains a minimum of 120 hours of work placement.
The workplace will need to be involved in the delivery of professional allied health services, including speech pathology services, to clients.
Students will need access to a range of different clients and speech pathology programs for assessment purposes, including clients requiring speech and language support, clients with dysphagia and clients who are being supported by Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) systems.
Whilst on your placement, you will also need to assist the Speech Pathologist in the initial and/or ongoing assessment/screening of clients, as well as assisting in the preparation and provision of Texture Modified Foods and Fluids to clients.
