Change Your Life with a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care blended delivery
Are you looking for an early childhood course that provides you with the flexibility to study mainly from home whilst still being supported to achieve the practical skills required to thrive as an Early Childhood Educator?
If this is you then NIET’s Blended delivery mode caters for you. Due to the nature of this type of delivery, you will need to be self-driven, organised and have the ability to complete your own research. You will also need a computer and good computing skills. At the same time, you will be led by your trainer providing pre-recorded webinars, learning materials and a weekly zoom online class. One Saturday per month you must attend the NIET campus in Frankston to come together with other students to demonstrate the practical skills you have learnt.

Duration and Study Load
- 1 Pre-recorded webinar and 1 online class per week
- 1 Saturday per month
- 50 weeks duration
- 240 hours of practical placement is required
Delivery
- Blended delivery consists of attendance one night per week via an online Zoom meeting after watching a pre-recorded webinar. The meeting and webinar are facilitated by the trainer who guides and supports students through all aspects of the course
- One Saturday per month students is required to attend a face to face class where they are to complete the Demonstration/Simulation tasks for the units
- During all sessions, the trainer assists students with course content, assignments and general course work. Students are also able to gain individual help from their trainer.
Entry Requirements
Pre-Training Review
Prospective students are booked in for a pre-training review with a NIET staff member, to answer any questions about the course and to ensure the course is suitable for their skill level and career expectations. During the review the following topics are discussed:
- Course suitability and likely job opportunities
- Existing educational qualifications and any adjustments that may apply
- Identify any support requirements for the student
- Support for equity and disadvantaged
- Course and study requirements to ensure you are fully informed
- Assessment of Literacy, Language and Numeracy level for the qualification
- Assessment of Digital literacy
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN)
- As part of the pre-training review prospective students take part in a Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment that allows students to into a course that is at the correct level for them
Industry Requirements
- In order to complete Practical Placement, you must obtain a volunteer Working with Children Check (no cost)
Under 18 supervision requirements
- If under the age of 18, a parent/guardian signature will be required for enrolment and at various stages throughout your course. Please note educators who are under 18 years of age are to be supervised at all times by an educator who is over the age of 18

Work Placement
- Practical Placement allows students to complete work experience in a real-life workplace. It gives students the opportunity to gain skills and put classroom knowledge into practice
- NIET has a range of places where students can undertake Practical Placement and gain valuable skills and connections. Students are required to successfully complete the Practical Placement component of the course to gain the qualification
- For learners working in the industry, working hours may be used for Practical Placement with the approval of the employer
Recognition of Prior Learning
- RPL is Recognition of Prior Learning and may allow some students to have prior experience assessed
- Credit Transfers are available to students who have previously completed units
