Technical skills
While technical skills depend largely on the industry or occupation you’re in, some Technologist skills in demand are:
Programming languages
It’s pretty unavoidable, no matter what role you’re in: if you work with technology, you need to know how to code. The language to focus on can vary depending on your area, however. If you’re a web designer, you’ll need an excellent grasp of CSS and HTML. Developer languages depend on the platforms you specialise in, but generally, more languages will make you more valuable.
Java
If you choose development as a career track, Javascript is a great coding language to have under your belt. It’s super versatile, able to run across many applications and platforms. Plus it’s similar to many other languages, which means you can learn new languages more easily after you’ve mastered it.
SQL
SQL stands for Structured Querying Language, and it’s a powerful tool for working with databases, enabling you to make use of data from huge datasets. It’s an easy language to learn, with many applications that extend beyond data.
