‘I love my job!’ Changing Your Career Path To Your Passion
Changing careers can be daunting, whether that be starting in a small job and working your way towards your ultimate goal, or getting a few more qualifications under your belt. In the long run, changing your career path can be an incredibly fulfilling and rewarding experience.
Your initial passion in life may not always come with a plausible career path, but more often than not, you can find yourself a career change that you’re still passionate about.
Working as a curator for Australia’s largest art marketplace, – Bluethumb, is the perfect role for an art lover such as Sarah. The online art gallery helps connect emerging and established local artists via the platform, helping artists to both sell their art and gain exposure.
After completing a degree in Visual Arts, Sarah struggled to find her feet in the industry she loves. Working odd jobs and living overseas, unsure of what path to take next.
Reaffirming that art was always her passion, Sarah took the plunge and subsequently moved to Melbourne.
Working in this industry is just the best, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Enrolling herself in a Masters of Arts in Arts Management course, she then scored an internship with Bluethumb. No less than 2 weeks later, Sarah was hired full time as an art curator. Now looking at art and going to exhibitions has become her career.
Starting in 2011, Bluethumb was created by brothers Ed and George Hartley. Recognising that there was an obvious gap in the market the Hartley brothers created Bluethumb in the hopes of providing a platform whereby local artists could sell their work.
“I have purchased several original artworks from Bluethumb and have been very happy with the ease of ordering, communication, quality of works and delivery process. A great way to buy art!”
– Jane, Collector
Bluethumb has cemented itself in the art community as the largest art marketplace in Australia. Connecting artists, collectors, art lovers and interior designers to up and coming and established local artists.
We do more than provide our artists with a platform to connect them to buyers; we treat them as family and help them grow their careers. It’s no surprise more continue to join our community every day.
Born in Perth, Sarah graduated from her undergraduate degree in 2015 before refining her practice as a visual artist. Relocating to Melbourne, Sarah begun her masters in 2017 and continues her practice whilst working for Bluethumb.
Like Sarah, sometimes all it takes is a bit of tenacity and further study to be qualified for the position of your dreams.
