Jazz was born in Southern USA. As a jazz student it would be amazing to travel to its birth place to study the history. Jazz has always been immensely appreciated in Europe as well. Imagine the joy that jazz students from Monash University’s Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music experienced when they recently travelled to the Monash University Prato Centre in Italy to perform.
Enrico Rava, a living legend of jazz, has released over 50 albums in his career. The students, on campus for three weeks, were privileged to be recorded with Mr Rava.The Monash Sessions: Enrico Rava released on Jazzhead.

- Gil Evans
- Cecil Taylor
- Joe Henderson
- John Abercrombie.

“We take immense pride in the fact that our students are performing with artists such as Enrico. It is an absolute honour,” Associate Professor Burke said.
Mr Rava travelled to Melbourne recently and gave a series of performance workshops at the School of Music in collaboration with student s and staff.
Past jazz luminaries whom have recorded with students and staff include Vince Jones, George Garzone, George Lewis and Hermeto Pascoal.
