6 Easy Smoothie Recipes To Help You Start Your Day Right
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and helps with weight loss, muscle regeneration and any number of other health goals – but when it comes to a choice between an extra 20 minutes sleep and getting up to make a filling breakfast, most of us choose the sleep.
That’s why a healthy smoothie is a perfect way to deal with busy mornings. You get all of the vitamins you need, like vitamin C to ward off a cold or flu, while also helping you save precious time.
Here are 6 healthy breakfast smoothie recipes to make sure you start the day on the right foot:
Breakfast Smoothie Recipe No. 1: Peanut Butter And Banana Smoothie
When you make your smoothie, consider all of your nutritional needs for the day. This smoothie is perfect for people who need slow burning energy and lots of healthy fats. If you know you probably won’t eat again until much later in the day, or if you’ve already squeezed in a workout, this healthy breakfast is filling enough to keep you going!
It’s a smoothie. Blend away!
Although this could already be considered a protein smoothie, if you’re recovering from an intense workout, you may want to consider adding some protein powder to the recipe, but check what your daily recommended intake is first!
Breakfast Smoothie Recipe No. 2: The Green Smoothie
This wouldn’t be a smoothie recipe list without a green smoothie on the list – sometimes it seems like green smoothie recipes are taking over the world! Typically, green smoothies are pretty low in terms of long term energy release, so it’s a good option for those that hate eating in the morning and will probably have something more substantial in a few hours time for morning tea. This healthy smoothie is low fat and low carbs, so is perfect for a quick healthy breakfast on the way to work.
Consider adding other extras like flaxseed, hemp seed or chia seeds to make it a little more filling and nutritious. This delicious smoothie is perfect for having on the way to work because making it a mint smoothie, you don’t have to worry about needing to brush your teeth again after breakfast! (Although maybe check a mirror. No one wants green stuff in their teeth)
Breakfast Smoothie No 3: The Tropical Smoothie
Sometimes we just want to feel like we’re on holidays or have the day off to go to the beach. Unfortunately, most of us didn’t inherit a large fortune and therefore have to work to be able to do so. This smoothie will make you remember why you’re working so hard that you don’t have time to make yourself breakfast – because someday, there’s a beach somewhere with your name on it.
Using coconut milk will make it more of a creamy smoothie that will give you some really good fats and keep you going, whereas coconut water will make it much lighter. Consider your daily intake and adjust accordingly!
Breakfast Smoothie No 4: Avocado Smoothie
We all love a smashed avo, so why not go an avocado smoothie? This morning smoothie is chock a block with healthy ingredients and fats, and is a brilliant way to have a sweet smoothie that’s also really good food!
This smoothie tastes delicious, but is definitely best when fresh, so drink as soon as it’s done!
Breakfast Smoothie No. 5: The Berry Smoothie Bowl
If you want to pretend you’re having a bigger breakfast than you are, thicken up a strawberry smoothie or other fruit smoothie and put it in a bowl. You’ll feel like you’re sitting down to a super big breakfast without the calories! This one is a berry smoothie because berries are heaped full of anti-inflammatory properties, but really you can make any smoothie a smoothie bowl with the addition of some texture to your favourite fruit smoothie.
Put the oats in the milk the night before to soak so they’re soft by morning. (Or don’t, and just chew your breakfast a bit more – whatever floats your boat)
Then blend it all together, pour it into a bowl and decorate with sliced fruits to make it insta-worthy.
The addition of oats isn’t completely necessary, but it does make your breakfast a little more filling and will tide you over longer.
Breakfast Smoothie No. 6: The One We Wish We Could Always Have
Maybe you have spectacular good self-esteem and know that you don’t have to prove your good health by having a smoothie for breakfast. Maybe you just can’t be bothered with healthy eating on this day. Maybe you don’t really care either way and just want some chocolate. Whatever reason, here’s a sweet smoothie with cocoa powder for yumminess, and banana so that if you’re worried about having to justify your breakfast to others, you can genuinely say you had a banana smoothie.
Just tell yourself you’ll have the green smoothie next time. It’s probably a lie, but totally not the point.
