Plenty of people all over the world are using self-promotion to get themselves noticed and it’s paying off! Standing out from the crowd is important these days when the employment market is so competitive. Make sure you are doing everything you can to make yourself employable and set yourself ahead of the pack.
If you think you are already doing all that you can, check out the lengths that these guys have gone to in order to secure themselves a job!
Adam Pacitti created a giant billboard with a picture of himself, a few words explaining that he spent his last 500 pounds on this billboard with his ‘employ adam’ website at the bottom. Aside from the stunt going viral and resulting in worldwide fame, Adam’s investment also paid off big-time in the form of a job, when he was offered a position with award-winning company KEO.

David Rowe, a 24 year old graduate, was so desperate to find a job – even offering to work for free – that he used self-promotion and wore a ‘Job Wanted’ billboard around his neck whilst walking the streets of London. He soon found himself working with international recruitment company Parkhouse Bell. When asked to comment, Gavin Walke of Parkhouse Bell said he “liked the fact he had thought outside of the box” and admitted “I was impressed by that”.
When applying for a position, remember that sometimes, you have to think outside the box. Make an impression! If you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done. Don’t become complacent and think that your stellar resume and cover letter are enough to land you the job. Sometimes you have to do what it takes to be memorable and stand out in the crowd. It’s worked for these guys and there’s no reason it can’t work for you too.
