Our nationally recognised CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support is an ideal qualification if you’re looking for entry work in the booming aged care sector. You will unlock a variety of entry-level work situations in the community services industry, and gain the practical skills to carry out your role as a Care Worker with confidence. According to the Australian Government Job Outlook, the number of people working as Aged and Disabled Carers (in their main job) grew very strongly over the past 5 years and is expected to grow very strongly over the next 5 years: from 175,800 in 2018 to 245,000 by 2023. There are likely to be around 179,000 job openings in the Aged Care Sector over the next 5 years (that’s about 35,800 a year). | Get started in a career in aged care and learn the practical skills and knowledge needed to provide individual support to elderly clients. Open Colleges’ online Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) is an entry-level qualification that can get you working as an Aged Care support Worker. | Train to support older people and their physical and mental health needs with this great distance learning course. This course considers the different issues that are faced by older people, such as retirement, lifestyle changes, bereavement, chronic illness, terminal illness and death and how to provide these individuals with appropriate support. Although many aspects of counselling are directly applicable to all age groups, working with the elderly also requires a different set of skills and knowledge to ensure that elderly clients receive appropriate support. Younger people often struggle to envisage what it might be like to be elderly, but if they are able to gain insight into the ageing process they are much better at empathising with their needs. | The world needs dedicated compassionate carers. With an aging population, aged care providers are increasingly in demand nationwide. In this course, you’ll learn all the skills needed to thrive as a caregiver, whether in a home setting, in a community or in a registered home care facility. You will learn both the hard skills, such as safety procedures and aged care-related legal and ethical knowledge, as well as critically important soft skills like working effectively with older people and counselling those who have been diagnosed with illness.

If you’d like to learn more about the work placement component of this course, get the course guide for further details. | The course contains a minimum of 160 hours of work placement. Host Organisation You will need to undertake your work placement in an aged care organisation such as residential aged care facilities, group homes, and respite care. The specific requirements of the workplace are outlined in the Workplace Assessment Guide which can be found in OpenSpaceX. Open Colleges will need to ascertain whether the workplace you have chosen is appropriate before commencing your work placement hours. It is important that you consult with your GP as soon as possible to avoid delays in starting your work placement. | N/A | N/A
