Course overview

If you are working in Aged Care, you understand the pace at which the Aged Care sector continues to evolve – with a greater focus on personal connections and interactions, and the empowerment of people receiving support as they age.

Updating your qualification with the Certificate IV in Ageing Support will build on your existing skills and knowledge, so you can move beyond a task-focus, and truly connect with your clients.

This Course delivery is strongly aligned with the Strengthened Aged Care Standards, with a focus on additional knowledge to help you:

  • Provide best practice, connected and person-centred personal care support,

  • Support engagement in meaningful social activity,

  • Ensure positive, social and mindful mealtime experiences for your clients and residents,

  • Better understand mental health conditions that can impact on your clients, and

  • Better support carers, families and yourself to navigate grief and loss of clients

Duration study load

Classes:
Over 10 months, you’ll attend scheduled learning sessions (online) one evening per week.
You’ll also have 2 x practical sessions, face-to-face in one of our Regional or Metropolitan hubs.

Homework:
You’ll need approximately 3-4 hours a week to study and complete your written assessment work.

Placement:
This course requires 120 hours of practical placement or relevant work.

Delivery

Blended Delivery:
Learning sessions are held in our interactive online classroom, hosted on Microsoft Teams.

Practical face-to-face sessions are held in our Metropolitan or Regional hubs, where you’ll get to practice physical tasks and use manual handling equipment before you go on placement.

Placement:
During your practical placement, or relevant work hours, we’ll complete workplace observation assessment with you.

Entry requirements

Mandated entry requirements:
There are no mandated entry requirements for this course.

Warner Institute requirements:

  1. Students must be 18 years or over at the beginning of the course

  2. Students must be Australian Citizens, New Zealand citizens, Permanent Residents, or on an approved Visa to enrol

  3. Students must be able to meet industry requirements such as:
    -Provide a clear and current police check
    -Provide an NDIS Worker Screening Check,
    -Provide evidence of industry-required vaccination

Whole Person Learning
This course is delivered using the Warner Institute Whole Person Learning Model – learning that grows you as a person, not just academically.

You’ll take away real world skills that transition into the workplace, so that you’re an asset on placement, and readily employable.

Learn Earn Pathway
If you’re not working in a relevant role, we’ll connect you to our network of Learn Earn Employers so you can start working while you’re studying.

This means that you can consolidate your classroom learning by implementing it at work – and may mean that you don’t need to fit in as much practical placement.

Student Support
You’ll have access to soft skills (learning) support with our internal Wellbeing Team, as well as academic support from your qualified and professional Course Manager (trainer).

Blended Learning
This course is the perfect mix of online (with scheduled live online sessions) and practical, so you’re fully supported whilst you learn flexibly.

Work placement

This course requires 120 hours of practical placement or relevant work.

We’ll organise your supervised work placement if you need it – your roster for unpaid placement will be negotiated with your approved host placement provider; generally, this will be full days, five days per week.

Recognition of prior learning

If you have previously completed a Certificate III in Individual Support, or other Community Services qualification, you may be eligible for credit transfer for some units in this course.

Speak to your Course Consultant about other options for Recognition of Prior Learning, if you are already working in this role.

Assessment

You’ll be assessed using a range of methods that accommodate all adult learning styles, including:

  • written theory assessment
    this includes question and answer, case studies, and workplace documentation style questions

  • class participation

  • simulation activities & role plays (online)

  • practical & simulation activities (face-to-face sessions)

  • workplace observation assessment

Materials

What will you need?
You will require access to a computer or laptop and a reliable internet connection and capacity to stream video with audio for interactive online classroom sessions, including any catch-up sessions.

  • Please note that iPads and tablets are not suitable equipment to undertake this Course.

  • You will be required to log on for the duration of each session with your camera activated, and microphone available.‍

  • You’ll need to use Microsoft Word to complete your assessments.

Learning resources:
You’ll access your learning resources and assessment materials via our online Learner Management System (LMS).
Your student portal contains all of your enrolment information so you can see your progress at any time.
