The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) is the ideal qualification for anyone passionate about making a difference in the lives of older people or those living with disability. Through a combination of classroom learning, self-paced study, and a structured 120-hour practical placement, you’ll develop the knowledge and hands-on skills to provide safe, person-centred care. Topics include dementia and palliative support, infection control, legal and ethical responsibilities, communication, and empowering clients to live independently and with dignity.

Duration study load

This course is delivered over approximately 12 months, depending on your prior experience, Credit Transfers, and individual learning needs.

You’ll study through a mix of:

  • Scheduled face-to-face classes
    • Joondalup: 3 days per week (Wed - Fri) for 21 weeks
    • Armadale: 3 days per week (Tues - Thurs) for 21 weeks

  • Self-paced flexible learning – around 16 hours per week, including assignments

  • 1:1 coaching sessions to keep you supported throughout your studies

  • 120 hours of mandatory practical placement, arranged for you in a local facility.

This blended model gives you both the structure of classroom learning while ensuring you gain real workplace experience to graduate job-ready.

Delivery

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing & Disability) is delivered through a blended learning model that combines classroom training, flexible study, and hands-on experience.

  • Face-to-face classes: Delivered at our Joondalup and Armadale campuses, scheduled during the day to suit different study preferences.

  • Self-paced flexible learning: Around 16 hours per week of online or at-home study, supported by assignments and resources.

  • 1:1 coaching: Personalised support from our trainers to help you stay on track and build confidence.

  • Practical placement: 120 hours of mandatory workplace experience in a local aged care or disability facility, arranged by us to suit your needs.

This delivery model ensures you not only gain the knowledge and skills required, but also the real-world experience and support to step confidently into your new career.

Entry requirements

There are no formal prerequisites for the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing & Disability). However, students must:

  • Complete a Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) assessment

  • Have a laptop and basic digital literacy skills

  • Be physically fit to undertake practical placement

  • Provide a current National Police Check and NDIS Worker Screening (if required)

  • Be fully COVID-19 vaccinated before commencing placement.

These requirements ensure students are prepared for both the study and workplace components of the course.

This course is available under the Jobs & Skills WA Participation – Work Readiness program, with subsidised training places for eligible students.

  • Concession students: $0 tuition fee

  • Non-concession students: $0 tuition fee

Eligibility requirements apply – students must provide proof of citizenship or residency (such as an Australian or NZ passport, birth certificate, Medicare card, or visa evidence) before commencing training.

For those not eligible for funding, flexible fee-for-service payment plans are available, making it easier to spread the cost of study.
