Course overview

The Certificate III in Hospitality is the perfect qualification for those looking for a career in hospitality including working as barista, bar attendant, waiter/waitress. Whether you imagine working in a restaurant, hotel, motel, funky bar, café, club or pub- you will be job ready upon successful completion of our course!

You will learn all the hospitality essentials including Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), food hygiene and food safety as well as how to become a brilliant barista.

The course also covers providing table services, serving food and beverages, processing financial transactions, working as a team, customer service and diversity.

You will be given the opportunity to put your new skills and knowledge into action and gain real experience during practical placement in a real hospitality environment. We will, of course, organise placement for you! While this course is action packed, engaging and fun the learning environment is supportive and designed to help you be your best.

Graduates of the SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality will be equipped with the skills and confidence to work across a wide range of hospitality venues including restaurants, hotels, motels, cafés, bars, clubs and pubs.

With hands-on training, industry-recognised certifications (including RSA and food safety), and real-world placement experience, you’ll graduate job-ready and prepared to step straight into entry-level roles across the hospitality sector.

Duration study load

Training is delivered through a combination of classroom-based sessions, self-paced study, and mandatory practical placement in a real hospitality environment. Placement is organised by Arrow Training Services.

  • Joondalup: Runs Monday – Wednesday, with 11 weeks of classroom training (3 days per week, 9am–5pm) plus 156 hours of practical placement.

  • Armadale: Runs Tuesday – Friday, with 10 weeks of classroom training (4 days per week, 9am–5pm) plus 156 hours of practical placement.

  • Rockingham: Runs Monday – Thursday, with 10 weeks of classroom training (4 days per week, 9am–5pm) plus 156 hours of practical placement.

Learners should be prepared to balance classroom attendance with independent study and placement commitments to meet competency requirements.

Delivery

This course is delivered through a blended model designed to give you both the theory and hands-on experience you need to succeed in hospitality. You’ll learn through:

  • Face-to-Face Training – scheduled classroom sessions with experienced trainers (Joondalup, Armadale, or Rockingham campuses)

  • Self-Paced Flexible Learning – to complete online study, readings, and assessments in your own time

  • Practical Placement – 156 hours of real-world experience in a hospitality venue, organised by our dedicated placement team

This combination ensures you graduate with both industry-relevant knowledge and practical, job-ready skills.

Entry requirements

There are no formal prerequisites to enrol in this course. All students complete a Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) assessment to ensure the right support is in place, and must be physically fit to undertake practical placement in a hospitality environment.

As part of the course, you’ll complete 156 hours of practical placement in a real hospitality venue. Placement is organised for you by our dedicated Placement Coordinator, giving you the chance to gain hands-on industry experience and apply your skills in a real workplace

The SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality is a nationally recognised qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Payment options

This course is a Jobs & Skills WA subsidised course for eligible students.

To qualify, you must be at least 15 years old, have left school, and meet citizenship/residency and employment criteria (such as being unemployed or under-employed). Concession rates are available for eligible students holding a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, Repatriation Health Benefits Card, or receiving approved Centrelink benefits.

For those not eligible for funding, Fee for Service options are available.

Who is eligible?

You are eligible for a guaranteed training place if you have left school and are:

  • An Australian citizen; or

  • A permanent visa holder; or

  • Holders of a sub-class 300, 309, 444, 445, 461, 785, 790, or 820 visa;

  • Secondary holders of a temporary visa of sub-class 188, 457, 482, 489, 491 or 494 visa;

  • Holders of a Bridging Visa E (subclasses 050 and 051) where the visa holder has made a valid application for a visa of subclass 785 or 790;

  • Ukraine citizens who are holders of a visa sub-class 449 or 786;

  • Afghan citizens who are holders of a visa sub-class 449; and

  • Holders of a bridging visa who are eligible to work, and who have made a valid application for a subclass 866.

Additional requirements:

  • Must be at least 15 years old.

  • If under 18 years of age, you must have a Department of Education (DoE) Notice of Arrangement. In 2025, persons in their final year of compulsory education were born between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2008. Please contact our office for further information regarding this requirement.

  • Western Australia must be your primary place of residence.

  • You must be unemployed or under-employed (working less than 20 hours per week).
