Course overview

The Certificate IV in Nutrition Coaching is designed for students who want to build the knowledge and skills to support generally healthy clients with evidence based nutrition guidance.

Delivered online and self paced, this nationally recognised qualification covers the foundations of nutrition, healthy eating, behaviour change, client support, nutrition coaching and scope of practice.

Students will learn how to provide practical nutrition guidance, support healthy lifestyle habits and understand when to refer clients to a dietitian or medical professional.

The course also includes bonus women’s nutrition courses to help students better understand the female body through different stages of life, including the menstrual cycle, reproductive journey, perimenopause, menopause and female athlete considerations.

This course is ideal for those wanting to work as a Nutrition Coach or add nutrition coaching to their existing health, fitness or wellness skill set.

Duration study load

The Certificate IV in Nutrition Coaching is self paced and completed online, so students can work through the course around their own schedule. Students have up to 12 months to complete the qualification, with the average completion time being around 6 months.

Study load will vary depending on your pace, prior knowledge and personal commitments. As a guide, students wanting to complete within 6 months may allow around 6 to 10 hours per week, while students using the full 12 months may only need around 2 to 5 hours per week.

Delivery

The Certificate IV in Nutrition Coaching is delivered online through a flexible learning platform, with a variety of learning materials including written content, videos, activities and assessments to support students as they work through the qualification at their own pace.

Students also receive access to bonus women’s nutrition courses, which can be completed online in their own time.

Course features

Our Certificate IV in Nutrition Coaching includes four bonus women’s nutrition mini courses designed to help you confidently support female clients through different life stages.

You’ll explore nutrition throughout the reproductive journey, menopause and perimenopause, the menstrual cycle, including considerations for PCOS and endometriosis, and the unique nutritional needs of female athletes, giving you valuable specialist knowledge to complement your nutrition coaching qualification.

Subjects

Module 1: Nutrition Fundamentals
HLTAAP001Recognise healthy body systems

This unit develops a foundational understanding of the structure and function of the human body. You will learn about the major body systems, how they interact and the factors that support healthy functioning. This knowledge will help you understand how nutrition, lifestyle and general health behaviours can influence the body.

NAT11396002Apply nutrition fundamentals in nutrition coaching settings

This unit introduces the fundamental principles of nutrition and how they apply within a nutrition coaching environment. You will learn about macronutrients, micronutrients, hydration, digestion, energy balance and healthy eating guidelines. You will also develop the skills to explain nutrition concepts clearly and apply evidence-based information when supporting generally healthy clients.

Module 2: Client Screening and Assessment
NAT11396001Conduct nutrition screening and initial client assessment

This unit covers how to conduct an initial consultation and nutrition screening with a new client. You will learn how to collect information about the client’s health, eating habits, lifestyle, goals and readiness for change. You will also identify potential risks, determine whether the client is suitable for nutrition coaching and refer them to an appropriately qualified health professional when their needs fall outside your scope of practice.

This unit focuses on helping clients make realistic and sustainable changes to their eating behaviours. You will learn how to explore a client’s motivation, identify barriers, establish achievable goals and use supportive coaching strategies to encourage progress. You will also monitor the client’s experiences and adjust your approach as their needs and circumstances change.

CHCCOM006Establish and manage client relationships

This unit develops the communication skills needed to build and maintain positive professional relationships with clients. You will learn how to establish rapport, identify client needs and expectations, communicate respectfully, maintain appropriate professional boundaries and respond effectively to feedback, concerns or challenging situations.

Module 3: Working with the Individual: Meal Planning and Body Composition Goals
NAT11396003Plan for the specific nutritional requirements of women

This unit develops your understanding of the nutritional needs of women across different stages of life. You will explore how factors such as the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, postnatal recovery, perimenopause, menopause, ageing and physical activity may influence nutritional requirements. You will use this information to provide appropriate nutrition coaching while recognising when referral to a qualified health professional is required

NAT11396004Create and develop meal plans tailored for specific body composition goals

This unit covers how to create practical meal plans that support individual body composition goals, including weight management, muscle development and changes in body fat. You will learn how to consider a client’s energy needs, food preferences, dietary patterns, lifestyle, budget and goals when developing suitable meal-planning strategies. You will also review progress and make appropriate adjustments over time.

NAT11396006Provide nutrition and supplementation strategies for health, performance, and weight management

This unit focuses on providing evidence-based nutrition and supplementation information to support general health, exercise performance and weight-management goals. You will learn how to assess a client’s needs, explain suitable nutrition strategies, evaluate common supplements and communicate potential benefits, limitations and risks. You will also work within your professional scope and refer clients when specialised dietary or medical advice is required.

Module 4: Business and Retail Opportunities
BSBESB301Investigate business opportunities

This unit introduces the process of identifying and researching potential business opportunities. You will learn how to explore business ideas, identify target customers, research competitors, consider required resources and assess whether a potential nutrition coaching service may be practical and financially viable.

This unit develops the skills needed to provide professional customer service through online channels. You will learn how to respond to enquiries, communicate clearly, manage customer expectations, resolve routine concerns and maintain a positive customer experience across email, messaging, websites and other digital platforms.

This unit develops the skills required to support clients through a professional sales process. You will learn how to identify customer needs, explain relevant products or services, respond to questions, recommend appropriate options and complete sales while maintaining ethical and customer-focused practices.
