The SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy is Demi International’s comprehensive beauty course — covering everything from skin science and facial treatments to massage, hair removal, lash and brow services, and make-up artistry. Duration study load

Full Time: 12 months — 4 x 10-week terms 

Study commitment: 2 days per week on campus + approximately 10 hours per week self-directed study at home 

Part Time: 18 months — 6 x 10-week terms 

Study commitment: 1 day per week on campus + approximately 14 hours per week at home

All practical training is delivered at a Demi International campus — no external placement required.

Entry requirements

Students must be 15 years and over. We also require basic English language skills and a genuine interest in the beauty industry. If you’re unsure about meeting requirements, our admissions team can discuss your individual circumstances.

  • As a qualified beauty therapist, you can earn an average salary of $63,000 per year in Australia. Earning potential increases for highly specialised fields like cosmetic tattoo and injectables

  • As a recent graduate of Demi international (Diploma of Beauty therapy) and as a 16 year old High Student in Year 11 2025. I can’t recommend the Maroochydore campus and Demi in general enough.   • When you’ve successfully completed the SHB50121 Diploma, you can enjoy pathways to higher learning, including our SHB50216 Diploma of Salon Management and various Bachelor degree courses.

Course Modules
Beauty Foundations

The beauty Foundation units of study cover lash and brow services, waxing services and manicures and pedicures including how to use electric file equipment.

Salon Services

Learn the day to day in a salon as well as treatments so you can hit the ground running in your new career. Learn how to sell and advise on beauty products to your clients, conduct salon financials and workplace health and safety.

This area of study also includes Maintain Infection Control course units which are mandatory for anyone working with clients in a salon!

Health, Anatomy and Physiology

Incorporate knowledge of skin and body structures and functions into your beauty therapy skills. You’ll also learn to maintain health and wellbeing in a personal services setting along with promoting healthy nutritional options in a beauty therapy context.

Facials

Learn to provide all standard, specialised and micro-dermabrasion facial treatments including skin care recommendations.

Body & Spa Treatments

Provide body massage including stone therapy, aromatherapy and Indian head massage for relaxation. This course unit also include reflexology relaxation techniques.

Payment options

  • VET Student Loan (VSL): A government loan scheme that covers course fees upfront for eligible students— repaid through the tax system once your income reaches the threshold. This is a loan, not a grant. 

  • Career Boost (QLD residents): Subsidised fee option for eligible Queensland students who don’t hold a Diploma or higher qualification completed in the last 10 years. 

  • Career Start (QLD residents): Subsidised fee option for eligible Queensland students who don’t hold a Certificate III or higher qualification completed in the last 10 years. 

  • Fee for Service: Pay your course fees directly, with flexible payment plans available. 

  • No enrolment fee applies for VSL-eligible students. 

Entry requirements: Must be 15 years of age or older and display the required level of competence for study. Career Boost and Career Start are available to Queensland residents only — eligibility conditions apply.
