Duration study load

The diploma program is divided into three study periods, each scheduled for 12 months, with a total course duration of up to 36 months. As this is a self-paced program, you have the flexibility to complete each study period more quickly depending on your availability and study commitment.

Estimated total hours for each full study period: 400 hours. Estimated completion time based on weekly study hours:

  • 8 hours/week: approximately 12 months
  • 16 hours/week: approximately 6 months
  • 24 hours/week: approximately 4 months

If something changes and you cannot continue your study as planned, each study period allows an extension window of up to 5 months (eligibility criteria apply).

Delivery

This course is delivered entirely online. You can access the learning platform on a desktop, tablet or mobile, and fit study around your busy life.

Online modules are broken down into topics and subtopics. Each module contains a range of learning styles including written text, diagrams, instructional videos and formative activities that provide instant feedback and prepare you for summative assessments.

Entry requirements

Students must be 18 years of age or above and must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or resident. Students are expected to have Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at Year 12 (or equivalent) or Certificate IV level.

Computer skills requirements: You will need to have intermediate computer skills, including the ability to:

  • Create, save and edit Microsoft Office documents
  • Access and search the internet
  • Download and save documents from websites
  • Upload documents through websites
  • Create videos

IT requirements:

  • Desktop or laptop: Latest version of Chrome or Safari, Microsoft Office (2010 or higher), Adobe PDF Reader
  • Mobile or tablet: Latest version of Chrome or Safari, latest version of Android or iOS (note: students using a mobile or tablet will need to upload documents from a laptop or desktop or have a Dropbox account)

Professional Recognition

NRT – Nationally Recognised Training. Upon successful completion, you will receive the nationally recognised qualification BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management, awarded by Swinburne University of Technology (RTO 3059).

Assessment

Your course will be assessed online through the learning management platform. You will be assigned a specialist assessor for each module who will provide support while you complete your assessment. Assessments are carried out using a variety of tasks, including:

  • Short answer questions
  • Projects
  • Case studies
  • Video role plays

Some assessments require role plays to demonstrate communication and problem-solving skills. These are recorded using video on your device and uploaded to the online platform for review.

Materials

Your learning materials are accessed through the online learning portal and include:

  • Learning activities
  • Rich media including video resources and web links

Additional information

Trainer support is available through the course messaging system, with one-on-one video calls available if needed. A Monthly Course Spotlight video is also provided.

Subjects

This course contains 13 online modules, split into three study blocks. The modules have been designed to cover 6 core units and 6 elective units of competency, plus an introductory module.

Students are required to complete all units of competency in a study block to meet the eligibility criteria to move onto the next study block. Students must enrol into each study block individually. On successful completion of each study block, a statement of attainment is awarded. On successful completion of all three study blocks, the diploma is awarded.
