Do you want to work in a classroom? The Certificate IV in Education Support is the highest level Teacher’s Aide course for anyone seeking a career as an education support worker in an Australian school.

Schools across Australia rely on skilled education support workers to help students learn, develop and thrive. This qualification prepares you to work alongside teachers in a classroom setting, supporting students of all learning abilities. The course is delivered entirely online with 100 hours of practical placement in an approved school or education setting.

Duration study load

  • Completion time depends on individual study pace and placement availability. Most students complete within 12–18 months

  • 100 hours of work placement.

Delivery

This is an online blended course. All theory, readings and assessments are completed online at your own pace through MCIE’s learning management system. Mandatory work placement is completed separately in an approved workplace setting.

Entry requirements

  • No prior qualifications required.

  • Must complete a Pre-Training Review and meet Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) standards.

  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, aged at least 18, with a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

  • Digital literacy: Students must access and navigate the online portal, upload assessments, and communicate via email.

  • Work Placement: May require National Police Check, Working with Children Check, and relevant vaccinations depending on host employer policies.

Work placement

  • 100 hours in an education environment.

  • It is a requirement that students obtain the following prior to commencing practical placement.

  • Working with Children Check (minimum level required ‘voluntary’ which is at no cost).

Recognition of prior learning

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) are available

Assessment

  • Students must successfully complete all assessment activities including written assessment, scenario, roleplay, portfolio, workplace-based tasks and assessor observations.
