What is Higher Level Skills?
The higher level skills program aims to equip Queenslanders with the necessary abilities to find work in priority industries or to move on towards a university education.
This program aims to provide those living in the Queensland area with subsidised vocational education courses that ensures that training is an affordable choice for those who need it.
You’ll be able to choose from 90 unique qualifications and 30 skill sets that are suited to jobs within 20 different industry sectors, giving you the chance to find the perfect development plan for you.
Set up by the Queensland government as a way to get young Queenslanders into work within priority industries, the program can help to establish a rewarding and lucrative career.

What courses does Higher Level Skills subsidise?
Vocational education courses will be subsidised under this scheme at the following levels:
• Certificate IV
• Diploma
• Advanced diploma
• Priority skills set
You can choose from over 90 qualifications and 30 skill sets at these levels, which will be aligned to one of 20 different priority industry sectors. Not all courses may be covered by the Higher Level Skills program, but submitting an enquiry with a training provider can help you to find out whether a course you are interested in is covered.


Am I eligible for Higher Level Skills?
If you’re interested in seeing how the Higher Level Skills program can help you, you’ll need to find out whether you’re eligible. The eligibility requirements to access Higher Level Skills funding are as follows:
• Be an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, or an Australian permanent resident (this includes humanitarian entrants), or be a temporary resident with an eligible visa subclass.
• You must be at least 15 years old.
You must reside in Queensland and have left school.
• Finally, you cannot already possess or be currently undertaking a certificate IV level or higher qualification.
If you meet these entry requirements, you’ll be able to start your education journey and make the most out of the Higher Level Skills program. Speaking to a course provider or registered training organisation before enrolment about the eligibility criteria can answer a lot of your questions.
