Government funding for vocational and TAFE courses in Adelaide and South Australia
Two government funding schemes are in place in South Australia. Skilling South Australia offers apprenticeship and course subsidies to students of all ages whereas Skills Checkpoint offers individualised guidance, counselling, and subsidised training to assist older workers in retraining or upskilling.
TAFEs, and approved Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) may offer funded courses. Upon enrolment, the government pays the training provider’s course fee. You might still be required to pay for some facilities and services, as well as textbooks and other study materials — this varies across courses and providers.
Funding for vocational education and training is offered for both accredited short courses (referred to as skill sets) and full qualifications, from foundation skills (certificate II) to courses from certificate III and certificate IV, all the way up to advanced diploma level, across a variety of industries from information technology to community services.
All funding programs require that you live and work in South Australia and be one of the following:
• Australian citizen
• Permanent Australian resident
• New Zealand citizen
• Eligible visa holder
The extra requirements for each program are listed on each funding scheme’s page. You can find additional information at www.skills.sa.gov.au or by enquiring about a course with a provider.
