About New South Wales

New South Wales is extremely student-friendly. Apart from the superior quality higher education it offers, students will also find a wealth of culture and an abundance of natural beauty. Although it is hard to beat Sydney when it comes to entertainment, but the clubs and the majestic opera that comes alive at night give it a good go.

The public transport system is well-developed, and the health care system is of a high class.

If you choose well, you can find living at a reasonable cost. Sydney and the other major cities can be expensive. Public transport, cheap shopping at a variety of markets and sharing accommodation will keep expenses in check.

The climate is fantastic and allows for great outdoor activities like enjoying the beaches, explore the forests or hike up the mountains.

Government funding for TAFE in NSW

If you match the criteria, you can apply for one of the several funding options that are available to students who want to take a TAFE course with an institute in NSW. The criteria will vary the level of education; the course studied; an applicants’ socio-economic background and who is footing the bill – students or businesses.

For example:

  • People with disabilities, long-term unemployed and indigenous Australians can attend workforce diversity programmes.
  • If you intend to study skills on the New South Wales skills shortage list, you can apply for the Strategic Skills Program.
  • Various HELP options are available for students, such as FEE-HELP and VET-HELP. Businesses who invest in apprenticeship and trainee programmes get financial incentives.
  • Rural and regional funding programmes encourage those in the outlying regions to train in the skills that are on the national shortage list.
