What is the Rapid Response Skills Initiative (RRSI)?
The Rapid Response Skills Initiative (RRSI) is a program set up by the Tasmania state government that’s designed to help those out of work through no fault of their own reskill in order to find new career opportunities.
This initiative will help those who have experienced a reduction or removal of casual, part-time, or full-time work over the previous 12 months due to retrenchment, downsizing, or the closure of a business they had previously been employed with.
If you’re self-employed, you can also access help from this scheme. Sole traders or partners in a partnership who’ve had to close their business can also receive assistance under this scheme.
Once your eligibility is reviewed, you can get access to up to $3000 that can contribute towards you getting the courses or relevant assistance you need to get your career back on track.

What courses does the Rapid Response Skills Initiative (RRSI) subsidise?
This scheme is designed to give the right help in order to get your career firing again.
The RRSI scheme covers the following areas:
• Training and licences that can improve job prospects
• Paying for career advice to help to choose the best training options
The total cost of the training will be covered up to $3000 and the career advice from the Tasmanian government can be accessed for $500.
Am I eligible for the Rapid Response Skills Initiative (RRSI)?
Although there are very few restrictions on helping those in need through this scheme, you will need to meet specific eligibility criteria in order to access support.
You must be:
• An Australian citizen, permanent resident (residing in Tasmania permanently).
• In possession of an eligible VISA class description (if you are none of the above).
Alongside that criteria, you must also be able to do one of the following:
• Demonstrate redundancy through a Centrelink Employment Separation • Certificate that lists redundancy as the reason for your exiting of the business.
• Or, obtain an email or letter from your former employer that states redundancy as the reason for your exiting of the business (which includes contact information Jobs Tasmania can use to verify this information).
• Or, if you are self-employed (sole trader or a partner within a partnership), provide written evidence of business closure (cancelled GBT registration or ABN.
• You must also have applied for help under this scheme within 12 months of the end of your employment.
