A good education can never be underestimated and a practical education which can lead to employment is invaluable. With competition in the workplace becoming ever tougher, a TAFE course is a wise choice. Some of the most prestigious TAFE colleges and institutions are in Western Australia. TAFE colleges open the door to excellent universities in Western Australia and Greater Australia.
Depending upon your circumstances and requirements TAFE courses can be studied online or at a TAFE college. Courses can be studied full-time or part-time, making study time flexible and manageable.
What is TAFE?
Tafe is an Australian education system designed to give students hands-on experience and employable skills in a variety of fields, from land management to mental health and beyond.
TAFE in Western Australia is suitable for a range of people. Students who have recently graduated from high school, students who wish to skip their final years of high school to become work-ready more quickly, small business owners who need to learn a new skill or workers who want to do a short course to upskill or formalise the skills they already have.
Australian TAFE also plays a large part in almost every apprenticeship or traineeship, so people who are interested in carpentry and joinery, hospitality management, hairdressing or beauty, metal fabrication or any other typically hands-on area may also go through the TAFE system.
Many TAFE’s also offer foundation studies and general education to ensure that students are ready to handle the workload at TAFE.
What kind of courses are available?
There are a huge number of courses available to both domestic and international students, covering every study area from health services, information technology, business administration, aged care, commercial cookery and more.
Depending on the qualification level, from a short course to an advanced diploma, courses teach from the basics all the way to detailed complete accounts of everything you could need to know about a topic. Possible courses include:
- Certificate IV in Ageing Support (CHC43015)
- Certificate IV in Youth Work (CHC40413)
- Certificate III in Community Services (CHC32015)
- Certificate III in Fitness (SIS30315)

Ways to study
One of the big benefits of TAFE is that where you’re studying early childhood education of human resources, an RTO will often have a variety of study options.
If you choose to study in person, you get the benefit of some fantastic campus locations filled with all the most high-tech support services, information technology and even simple elements like air conditioning that make all the difference to studying! You also get to have hands-on experience, so if you’re studying something like beauty therapy, work health and safety or health services, you’ll get real experience in the field.
If you choose to do an online course as your study mode, you get high-quality education delivered straight to your computer. This means gaining access to all of the theory from the comfort of your own home, or even allows for you to improve your skillset while studying. This is also potentially very helpful for those studying creative industries, business administration, digital media or information technology, where you’re not needed in person. It also means you can study a course from Perth, South Metropolitan TAFE or even a Melbourne course from anywhere in Western Australia.
Alternatively, you can study via blended learning, which is a mix of in-person and online learning. It’s perfect for areas like digital media, financial services, civil construction or vehicle servicing. There are also usually both full time and part-time study options available.
