5 Dream Animal Care Jobs For Animal Lovers
Animal care is a rewarding field for anybody who enjoys spending time with their furry friends and immersing themselves in all things animal welfare. This animal care industry contains a variety of exciting job types, all helping animals look and feel their best.
If you’re considering a role in animal care but are not quite sure of the career path you’d like to take, we’ve got you covered. Here are five dream careers that any animal lover will enjoy.
Becoming a vet nurse requires a great level of compassion, empathy and care for animals. There are many responsibilities that a veterinary nurse must undertake involving caring for animals under treatment and in temporary residence at various veterinary clinics, along with assisting veterinarians with performing procedures and operations.
A Certificate III in Veterinary Nursing or a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing is required to be able to work as a vet nurse. Traineeships are another option available that allow you to work alongside your study.
There are many ways you can build up the skills and experience needed to become a veterinary nurse before you begin studying, including volunteering in animal shelters or completing a short course to build an understanding of field. This will help you prepare to complete your Certificate III or IV in Veterinary Nursing.
Animal Attendants and Trainers
If you’re passionate about animal behaviour and discipline – such as training them for competitions – along with attending to their needs, then an animal attendant or trainer career is for you. Animal attendants and trainers teach animals to obey commands in order to address behavioural problems they may have, or prepare them to compete in competitions.
Although a formal qualification is not necessary to work in this role, completing a Certificate III or IV in Animal Studies is beneficial to your career prospects and preparing you for the job. These courses are also great if you want to build up expertise in animal health care.
This hands-on job will require close contact with animals within a range of environments including animal shelters, boarding kennels or veterinary clinics. An animal attendant’s day-to-day job often includes brushing, washing and styling them or cleaning up their enclosures or cages if the animals have to travel.

A job as a zookeeper is an excellent area to get into if you love all sorts of animals because of the hands-on aspect and close proximity. If you love being an animal carer and don’t mind cleaning enclosures or habitats, then this job is for you.
A Certificate III in Animal Studies will equip you with the knowledge necessary to thrive in this position.
A job as a pet groomer involves washing, drying, brushing, combing and cutting animals’ fur and nails to ensure they are kept in a highly clean manner. Pet grooming is an excellent career choice for those who love being close to animals, as a person in this role is constantly surrounded by furry friends.
Although no formal qualification is necessary to work as a dog groomer, it is highly valued so you are knowledgeable on the skills and techniques required to work as a dog groomer. A Certificate III in Pet Grooming will provide you with all the knowledge necessary to succeed in this fulfilling career.
Animal therapists are in charge of the rehabilitative care of animals following an injury, surgery or if they’re suffering from chronic pain. An animal therapist will often create a health care plan for the animal to offer a quick form of recovery or implement ways to ensure the animal’s pain, well-being and overall health care is being managed.
If you’re looking for a challenging but rewarding career that requires a constant level of animal care relating to the assistance in management or recovery of injuries and illnesses to promote animal health, then this career is perfect for you.
