Veterinary Nurse
Becoming a vet nurse requires a great level of compassion, empathy and care for animals. There are many responsibilities that a veterinary nurse must undertake involving caring for animals under treatment and in temporary residence at various veterinary clinics, along with assisting veterinarians with performing procedures and operations.
A Certificate III in Veterinary Nursing or a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing is required to be able to work as a vet nurse. Traineeships are another option available that allow you to work alongside your study.
There are many ways you can build up the skills and experience needed to become a veterinary nurse before you begin studying, including volunteering in animal shelters or completing a short course to build an understanding of field. This will help you prepare to complete your Certificate III or IV in Veterinary Nursing.

Animal Attendants and Trainers
If you’re passionate about animal behaviour and discipline – such as training them for competitions – along with attending to their needs, then an animal attendant or trainer career is for you. Animal attendants and trainers teach animals to obey commands in order to address behavioural problems they may have, or prepare them to compete in competitions.
Although a formal qualification is not necessary to work in this role, completing a Certificate III or IV in Animal Studies is beneficial to your career prospects and preparing you for the job. These courses are also great if you want to build up expertise in animal health care.
This hands-on job will require close contact with animals within a range of environments including animal shelters, boarding kennels or veterinary clinics. An animal attendant’s day-to-day job often includes brushing, washing and styling them or cleaning up their enclosures or cages if the animals have to travel.
