What is the New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program?
The New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program (NASP) is a government funding scheme that helps apprentices complete their traineeships/apprenticeships.
Skills Tasmania, part of the Tasmania state government, initiated the New Apprentice Scholarship Program to help learners in north-west Tasmania complete their apprenticeship or traineeship. Apprentices studying full-time can receive a scholarship grant of up to $2000, and part-time apprentices can receive grants up to $1000.
The New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program allows eligible students living in north-west Tasmania to complete an apprenticeship with an employer, with the scholarship helping pay for apprentice-related expenses including:
• Course fees
• Books and other materials
• Transportation
• Any other materials needed
This Skills Tasmania New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program aims to grow the Tasmanian workforce by making apprenticeships and traineeships more available for students. NASP’s objective is to support and grow a skilled workforce in north-west Tasmania through increasing the number of employees and trainees in high-demand industries.

What courses does the New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program subsidise?
The New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program is available for courses that are in industries considered to be high demand.

Am I eligible for the New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program?
There are certain criteria for both apprentices and employers for an apprentice both to be eligible for a scholarship under the New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program.
he required eligibility criteria includes:
Apprentices and trainees
• Reside in north-west Tasmania
• Aged 18 years of age or above
• Begin a training contract, with an employer who successfully meets all employer eligibility criteria, on or after January 1, 2020, and
• Enter the training contract as a new worker
Employers
• Must take on activity from one of the nominated industry subdivisions as its primary business activity
• Must employ (permanently or contract) the apprentice or trainee in a workplace situated in north-west Tasmania.
To find out if you qualify for the New Apprenticeship Scholarship Program, enquire about it. The training provider will check your eligibility, your employer’s eligibility and see if there are any open training positions at their institution when you contact them.
