There are a wide variety of pathways on offer in this thriving field, and what you choose will depend on where your interests and talents lie.
A career in sports and fitness means you’ll be constantly engaged in a quest for improvement, and kept on your feet in an active, dynamic and ever-changing field.
The role of a fitness instructor is to guide people towards better physical health through fitness activities, whether in a group or individual setting. You’ll work closely with a wide range of people from different backgrounds, and with that comes the opportunity to help them make positive life changes. This role requires a Certificate III or IV in fitness.
As a sports coach, you’ll oversee training, coaching and teaching players. This is a rewarding role in which you care for your team and guide them to success. You will either need considerable experience in the sport itself, or a relevant qualification.
As a sportsperson, you will play in professional sporting events such as AFL, soccer, rugby, golf, or swimming – just to name a few. Aside from competing in sports events, you’ll be involved in promotional activities like television appearances. This role doesn’t require formal qualifications, but you’ll need to be extremely skilled in the sport.
Outdoor Adventure Guide
As an outdoor adventure guide, you’ll guide people through activities in the wilderness. This might take the form of bungy jumping, fishing or hunting, trekking, whitewater rafting, or mountaineering. You are responsible for the safety of your group, as well as giving them an enjoyable experiences.
