What is Skills Checkpoint for Older Workers?
Skills Checkpoint assists Australians over 40 in retraining and upskilling so they can advance their careers or find new jobs.
The program is run by the Australian Government’s Department of Education, Skills, and Employment. It is intended for older workers who need to upgrade their abilities to stay employable.
The following individualised support services are available to eligible workers:
• Career assessment
• Sessions with a career guidance consultant
• A career strategy, including suggestions for skill development
• Grants for training up to $2,200 (covering 50%–75% of the course fee)
Sorry! We don't have any Government Funded & Loan Scheme Courses in South Australia at the moment
What courses does Skills Checkpoint funding subsidise?
Vocational courses like certificate IIIs and diplomas can be funded by Skills Checkpoint.
The training provider that delivers the courses in South Australia is called VERTO.
The subsidy varies based on the course:
• 50% of the tuition cost for courses that improve career prospects
• 75% of the tuition cost for courses linked to a skill on the Skills Priority List, as listed by the National Skills Commission.
On the Skills Priority List, there are several professions with shortages and rising demand, including:
• Autoglazier
• Real Estate Agent
• Library Assistant
• Legal Executive
Am I eligible for the Skills Checkpoint program?

To fulfill the new requirements, you must be:

• A permanent resident of Australia or an Australian citizen
• Either:
• Employed but at risk of accessing the income support system
• Recently out of work (within 12 months)
