What is Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s?
Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s is a program set up by the Queensland Government to give training to young people in high priority areas.
Aimed at pairing keen young Queenslanders up with employers in sectors with a significant skills gap, the Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s scheme pays for eligible learners’ qualifications needed to begin work as an apprentice or trainee.
Once your apprenticeship starts, your employer will cover your wages, giving you an affordable route into longer-term work opportunities.
The scheme covers 139 priority apprenticeship and traineeship qualifications, which ensures that learners can find opportunities within industries that have a high number of companies that are keen to take on new staff members.

What courses does Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s subsidise?
The Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s program covers many different areas of work and industries. Learners can choose an apprenticeship or traineeship in any of the 139 priority areas that are within the program and then receive relevant free training in that area.
Priority areas include:

• Automotive
• Aviation
• Beauty and hairdressing
• Building and construction
• Child care
• Community services
• Creative
• Electrotechnology and utilities
• Engineering
• Hospitality and cookery
• Laboratory science
• Manufacturing and design

Learners can access priority qualifications at certificate level II and III with the highest being certificate IV depending on the course area.
Am I eligible for Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s?
To access this scheme, there are eligibility requirements you must meet before starting your course.
The eligibility requirements are:
• You must be under the age of 25 before commencing your training.
• You must commence or have started your course between the 1st of January 2021 and the 30th of September 2022.
• You must be over the age of 13 (this age may be higher depending on the apprenticeship or traineeship).
• You must have signed consent from a parent or guardian that you are in the care of if you are under the age of 18 when your apprenticeship starts.
• You must also be an Australian or New Zealand citizen with a valid passport or have a visa that permits employment.
