More than $112 million has been invested into the new Western Australian government funding scheme Free in ’23. As a result, there are over 100 free courses offered including all Job Ready skill sets and some qualifications. This scheme is set to stimulate Western Australia’s skilled workforce, back local businesses, and provide more employment for all Western Australian residents.

Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing or Disability)
If you have a genuine desire to help people in need, then consider studying the Certificate III in Individual Support. This is a nationally recognised qualification that makes a real difference in people’s lives and gives them a sense of independence. People who work in individual support have deep empathy for others, strong communication skills and promote safe work practices, which are skills you’ll build on in this course.
After completing this course, you’ll know how to provide person-centred support, assist with daily living tasks, and recognise and monitor the health status of your clients. You’ll study for 6-12 months and gain experience through work placement to build the expertise and the confidence needed when providing individual support in a real-life setting.

Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance
There are a few reasons why allied health professionals are constantly in high demand.
Australia has an ageing population and therefore the need for more health and support services is ever-increasing. In recent years, there’s also been a growing awareness of mental health and the importance of emotional well-being, therefore this has increased the need for counsellors and psychologists.
If you’re interested in an allied health career, the nationally recognised Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance is a great way to get your foot in the door. This course teaches you how to tackle the challenges and pressures that come with allied health. You’ll also learn key theoretical knowledge across areas like medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and infection control.
As a result, this qualification opens up opportunities in a variety of different roles, including:

Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
If you love working with children and you’re passionate about helping them succeed in their education, this course is perfect for you. The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is a nationally recognised qualification that generally takes between 12 and 18 months to finish on a part-time or full-time basis.
In this course, learn a variety of subjects including child development, health and safety, communication, and play-based learning. Also develop your practical skills on how to create safe and healthy environments for children and foster important social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
This course opens up a wide-range of career opportunities in childcare centres, kindergartens, and family day care services, with roles like:
Playgroup supervisor
Nanny
Kindergarden assistant
You can study this course with Insight Training, a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) based in Western Australia.

Who is eligible for these government funded courses?
If you currently live in Western Australia, you may be eligible to study for at no cost under the Free in ‘23 Scheme. Starting from 1st January 2023, the eligibility criteria for free training requires you to (1) have left school, (2) reside primarily in Western Australia, and are either:
- An Australian citizen
- A permanent visa holder or holder of visa subclass 309, 444, 449, 785, 786, 790, or 820
- A dependent or spouse of the primary holder of a visa subclass 457 or 482
- A bridging visa holder who has made a valid application for a visa subclass 866
- A bridging visa E holder (subclasses 050 and 051) who has made a valid application for a visa subclass 785 or 790
Year 12 school students who are leaving school in 2023 can access a subsidised training place from 23 October 2023.
